Teamwork Leads to Arrest of Suspects Wanted in San Dimas and Rialto Robberies
At about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, two men robbed a 23 year old Monrovia resident as he was walking on Eucla Avenue near Arrow Highway in San Dimas. The suspects, armed with a knife and a baseball bat, confronted the victim and demanded his property. The victim surrendered his cell phone and a backpack containing a lap top computer. The suspects fled in a white Scion XB.
The victim assisted Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies by using a software program to locate his property in the Fontana-Rialto area. Officers from the Rialto Police Department and Fontana Police Department were notified. It was discovered that suspects in a similar vehicle, using similar means, had committed two robberies Wednesday night in the city of Rialto. Assisted by directions from a Los Angeles Sheriff’s detective and the San Dimas victim, the suspect and their vehicle were located near Cedar Avenue and Foothill in the city of Rialto. They were detained by Rialto and Fontana police officers without incident. The property belonging to the San Dimas victim was located, as well as the weapons used in the robbery.
18 year old Roberto Morales of Los Angeles, Jeffery Henriquez, age 18, of Los Angeles, and Mark Fernandez, age 19, of San Bernardino were detained.
Investigation by Rialto Police Department officers indicated that these suspects committed two robberies in Rialto. At about 10:33 p.m., at 2008 N. Riverside Avenue, Rialto, a 70-year-old male was forced into the Scion and robbed of his wedding ring and other valuables by three Hispanic males. The suspects left that location and an extensive search ensued by Rialto Police ground and air units.
About ten minutes later another victim called Rialto Police advising he had just been robbed at knife point in the parking lot of a Farmer Boys restaurant at 1310 W. Baseline Rd., Rialto. The victim provided a description of the white Scion XB and the three suspects.
The coordinated response between the law enforcement agencies led to the area of the suspects, and a Fontana Police Department sergeant located the vehicle and suspects at a gas station at Cedar Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Rialto.
The three named suspects were arrested for armed robbery and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents or additional victims is asked to immediately contact the Rialto Police Department at (909)820-2550, or the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, San Dimas Station, at (909)450-2700.
