Details: The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is conducting ongoing investigations into a series of armed robberies occurring in the local area. Teams of detectives have been redeployed to conduct targeted surveillances throughout the town.
As part of the investigations concerning two (2) recent armed robberies in the Arlington area (Saigon Cafe and East Garden Kitchen), undercover officers are being assigned.
On Sunday, February 16, 2014, at approximately 10:18 p.m., a surveillance team watched a suspicious male subject in the vicinity of a recent armed robbery on Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The subject was subsequently stopped to be interviewed. He was found to be concealing an assault rifle hanging from his shoulder concealed under his outer coat. Detectives recovered a 'Kriss' semi-automatic assault rifle fully loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. The male subject was taken into custody without further incident.
The defendant (see below) was charged with Criminally Possessing an Assault Weapon and Criminally Possessing Stolen Property under the New York State Penal Law, both felonies.
The recovered rifle was reported stolen in June of 2012 by a licensed firearms dealer in the Town of Pleasant Valley. It reportedly has a value of $1500.00.
The investigation is continuing.

Arraignment Information
The defendant was arraigned before Judge Paul Banner and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond. Defendant was directed to reappear in Town Justice Court on February 21, 2014.
