A local man was arrested after allegedly attacking his wife after coming home drunk late Monday.
Buford Ray Shirley, 30, of 740 Elkhorn Loop, was taken into custody shortly before midnight at his residence and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
Shirley was initially held without bond, but had bonded out as of Tuesday afternoon and is set to appear March 4 in district court.
According to reports, shortly before 11 p.m., GCSD Deputy Clayton Green was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Maverick Place regarding a domestic disturbance that had occurred at another location.
He made contact with the victim, 29, who had several red marks and scratches to her neck and a bruise on her forehead.
She stated her husband, identified as Shirley, had come home drunk and started yelling at her. She alleges he grabbed her by the neck and threw her into the wall and then threw a box of ammunition at her, striking her in the forehead.
She said he destroyed her phone and she had to grab him with her fingernails to push him off her, leaving marks on his neck. She noted she has three children with Shirley.
Green and other deputies went to the couple’s residence on Elkhorn and found Shirley standing in the driveway. They asked him what happened and he said his wife got mad at him earlier and attacked him.
He stated he was injured and Green noted a small red mark on the top of his head and fingernail marks on his neck consistent with the victim’s account. Shirley was taken into custody without incident.
