A local woman was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges early Sunday after she was reportedly involved in a disturbance at an area nightclub and allegedly fought with Garland County sheriff’s deputies.
Jeanie Elizabeth Mallett, 33, who lists an address of 126 Atkinson Lane, was taken into custody shortly before 3 a.m. at Smyley’s Crab Shack, 4916 Central Ave., and charged with a felony count of possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 30 years in prison, two felony counts of second-degree battery, punishable by up to six years, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Mallet was later released on $14,500 bond and is set to appear March 4 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, GCSD Deputies Stephen Webster and David Terry were dispatched to Smyley’s regarding a disturbance in progress, and upon arrival made contact with the club’s head of security, 48, who stated he had asked a female patron, identified as Mallett, to leave and she refused.
Webster states he made contact with Mallett, who was standing outside the club’s door, and asked her several times to step out to the parking lot so they could talk. He said he asked her to stop talking on her phone and come with him.
He alleges Mallett started yelling and saying, “F - - - you! I don’t have to do anything.” He noted he smelled a strong odor of intoxicants coming from her person.
Webster states Mallett put her right hand out and attempted to strike him, so he grabbed her hand, at which point she allegedly began to resist and fight him. Terry came up and the two deputies “then used minimum force to restrain” Mallett, who continued to fight and resist arrest.
They noted she was “kicking, punching and resisting,” and at one point kicked Terry on the left side of his face. Webster notes he received scratches to both knees during the struggle.
The deputies requested additional help, and a few minutes later several other officers arrived and they were able to restrain Mallett enough to get her in the back of a patrol unit.
At that time, the deputies noted they didn’t know who Mallett was, so they checked her purse to obtain ID. Once opening her purse, officers allegedly found a clear plastic bag containing a white powder substance that later field tested positive for cocaine, approximately 17.4 grams.
The report notes Mallett “continued to cuss and use profanities” during transport to the detention center and upon arrival continued to resist and curse at the jail staff.
Deputies contacted agents with the 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force who responded and seized the cocaine and reportedly assumed the investigation of the case. The DTF is composed of officers with the GCSD, Hot Springs police and Arkansas State Police.
