Sandy Relief Information
The Sandy Homeowner/Renter Assistance Program (SHRAP) is a state program to assist eligible families experiencing financial distress due to the storm. Rental and mortgage financial assistance, as well as replacement of essential furnishing and appliances up to a $15,000, may be provided to eligible Sandy victims.
Eligibility:
The Sandy Homeowner/Renter Assistance Program is time-limited to six months of assistance per household. In order to be eligible for the program, an individual or family unit must:
• Have financial distress directly related to housing which is a direct result of Super Storm Sandy;
• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible alien;
• Not currently receiving Work First New Jersey (WFNJ) benefits or eligible for WFNJ/SSI Emergency Assistance; and
• Be legally or blood related if part of a household
Services:
Assistance is available to help individuals/families with expenses for housing, current or past due utility payments and for the replacement of essential items such as furniture and appliances. To be eligible, the expense must be a direct result of the disaster.
Housing payments can be issued to meet the need for current or past due rent or mortgage. If a household needs assistance with ongoing housing expenses, the household must make a request with a new affidavit/worksheet every month to ensure that the program funding remains available.
