A local man was arrested on multiple misdemeanor charges early Wednesday after allegedly trying to break into an apartment and then fighting with Garland County sheriff’s deputies after briefly fleeing.
Jamie Craig Dixon, 37, who lists an address of 230 Coolwood Drive, was taken into custody shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Indian Springs Road and charged with first-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, each punishable by up to one year in jail, fleeing and disorderly conduct.
He remained in custody Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $3,000 bond and is set to appear March 4 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, shortly after 1 a.m., GCSD Deputies Richard Huffman and Charles Delahunt were dispatched to Indian Springs regarding a white male kicking at the door of one of the apartments.
On arrival, the deputies saw a suspect, later identified as Dixon, kicking at the door of an apartment and when he saw them pull up he started running. Delahunt ran after him and noted that Dixon fell and refused to turn over and put his hand behind his back.
Huffman and GCSD Sgt. Roy Williams assisted Delahunt “using minimum force necessary” but had to strike Dixon in the thigh a couple of times before he finally put his hands out to be cuffed.
While Delahunt was standing with Dixon, the suspect tried to get up and had to be taken down again.
The victim, 27, stated that Dixon, whom she knew, had come to her residence and started kicking the door and throwing rocks when she asked him to leave.
The report notes Dixon received a small cut on the top of his head when he fell while running, so LifeNet was called and transported him to Mercy Hospital Hot Springs. At the hospital, Dixon allegedly began cursing at the staff and being “very disorderly,” but was finally treated and released.
Dixon reportedly refused to get into Huffman’s unit and minimum force had to be used to get him in and taken to the detention center where all the charges were finally filed.
