Eustis Police Department asks both drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of each other especially during George Fest
George Fest is upon us my friends and a simple drive through town can be frustrating; however, if you keep in mind a few simple ideas, we can all make it a pleasant drive.
Pedestrians can increase their safety in the road environment by making themselves more visible and using safe routes and cross walks where possible. Remember, drivers are not typically looking out for pedestrians in non-crosswalk areas. They expect pedestrians to use the crosswalks.
Drivers can help make the road environment safer for pedestrians by scanning for them at crossings and intersections, as well as being aware that a pedestrian may not use the crosswalk and endangering themselves.
Drivers should always adjust their speed in locations where there is a high amount of pedestrian activity.
No parent, sibling or spouse wants to hear of the injury or even worse, death of a loved one because they felt the crosswalk was too far away to use.
