Winter Storm Watch Sun afternoon to Mon afternoon. Voluntary Travel Advisory issued.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Hempfield Township area starting Sunday afternoon (March 2, 2014) through Monday afternoon. Hempfield Township Emergency Management participated in a weather briefing with the National Weather Service earlier today and were informed of the potential snowfall of 9 - 12 inches by Monday morning. The period of most intense snow will start around midnight Monday morning and last until 4 to 6 o’clock in the morning. During this time we can receive an inch of snow per hour.
Due to the above forecast from the National Weather Service, Hempfield Township Officials are requesting drivers within the Township follow a Voluntary Travel Advisory during this Winter Storm Watch period. Hempfield Township requests all persons to limit driving only for essential purposes and to delay any non-emergency travel until roadway conditions improve. Those who must drive during this advisory are also cautioned to drive slower than the posted speed limit, as rapidly changing conditions may create hazardous driving situations.
Because of the potential impact of this event on public safety this Voluntary Travel Advisory is necessary. For up to date information and conditions, follow us on Facebook (/HempfieldEMA) and Twitter (@HempfieldEMA).
