The NWS has extended the Winter Weather Advisory till 6:00 PM CST

...LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT THE
SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION THIS AFTERNOON...

.MUCH COLDER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION
TODAY...WITH TEMPERATURES QUICKLY FALLING BELOW FREEZING ACROSS
THE ENTIRE AREA BY LATE MORNING. LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND DRIZZLE
AROUND MIDDAY WILL QUICKLY TRANSITION TO SNOW BY THE EARLY
AFTERNOON AS TEMPERATURES COOL ALOFT. SOME ADDITIONAL LIGHT ICE
ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON...ADDING
TO SOME OF THE HIGHER AMOUNTS OBSERVED OVER THE NORTHERN CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU AND THE CUMBERLAND MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA. THIS
LIGHT FREEZING RAIN WILL ALSO CREATE SOME SLICK SPOTS ACROSS THE
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL VALLEY AS WELL. SOME LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS
WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON...WITH
THE HIGHER TOTALS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES FAVORING THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF
THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...AND ALONG THE CLINCH AND CUMBERLAND
MOUNTAINS.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST /6 PM
CST/ THIS EVENING...

* EVENT...ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A FEW HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH TO
LOCALLY UP TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE...WITH SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS UP TO AN INCH.

* TIMING...LIGHT FREEZING RAIN LATE THIS MORNING WILL TRANSITION TO
SNOW BY EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...POWER LINES...TREE LIMBS...AND BRIDGES WILL FREEZE
FIRST. UNTREATED ROADS MAY BECOME ICY AND SNOW COVERED...PARTICULARLY
BY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
