The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau Acting Captain Erik Ruble was officially notified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Executive Director Robert Stresak that Parks Bureau’s Mounted Enforcement Detail (MED) has been selected as the runner- up for the 2013 Peace Officer Standard and Training Award for Organizational Achievement.
The mission of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Park Bureau-Mounted Enforcement Detail (MED) is to provide a well-trained equestrian unit that is capable of conducting patrol, crime suppression, and event security throughout the county of Los Angeles. As the largest law enforcement agency in the region, the MED routinely facilitate the most logistically complex and diverse one-day mounted training in the state of California. The course subjects the horse and rider to intense and high-sensory stimulus (e.g., flares, sirens, and crowds) but does so in a controlled environment that increases the confidence of both the students and their mounts. The training that MED provides enhances the level of professionalism and preparedness, and results in improved overall safety of those residing in the county.
For these reasons, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department / Parks Bureau – Mounted Enforcement Detail was selected by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training as the recipient of the 2013 runner- up for the POST Excellence in Training Award for Organizational Achievement. The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) was established by the Legislature in 1959 to set minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
