Advisory

Snow Emergency Declared in Milan Starting at 11:00 PM Tonight

Mayor Armitage has declared a Snow Emergency for the City of Milan effective at 11:00 PM tonight anticipating heavy snows associated with the approaching storm. The emergency will extend until streets can be safely cleared. A Snow Emergency means parking is prohibited on all city streets until it is lifted. Cars parked on city streets during a declared Snow Emergency are subject to ticketing and towing. It is our goal to achieve voluntary compliance with these parking prohibitions and avoid such enforcement actions. Members of the community are being requested to remove their vehicles from the streets and park them elsewhere early this evening rather than waiting until 11:00 PM. Prior Snow Emergency declarations have resulted in a high degree of compliance with the parking restrictions that were imposed and we are optimistically anticipating a similar positive response from our citizens. That cooperation greatly assisted the plowing crews during the course of previous snow storms.

The parking prohibitions also apply to the Downtown areas starting at 11:00 PM tonight. Parking will be permitted in the Downtown areas after 6:00 AM Wednesday morning, but the parking prohibitions will remain in effect throughout the remainder of the City until conditions indicate and the Snow Emergency is lifted.

DPW crews will be responding late tonight and working through the storm. Supplimental snow clearing assistance has been arranged, as well.

Plowing crews will be concentrating first on the main streets, then on the main feeder streets in the subdivisions, and then address the side streets. If snow accumulations reach predicted levels, this will be an on-going operation with DPW crews having to make repetitive trips throughout the City until the storm subsides.

It is important for vehicles to be off of the streets so snow can be cleared safely, as well as to allow crews to push the snow back to and over curbs. This will also allow the plowing crews to clear the drains and drainage areas near the curbs, such that melting snow can drain away, not pool in the streets and then refreeze.

Due to advanced planning, Milan has sufficient salt supplies to respond to this event and beyond if necessary.

The declared Snow Emergency is attached.

Citizens needing asssistance moving their vejhicles or during the the storm should contact Milan PD at 734-439-1551. In case of emergency dial 911.
