A traffic stop on a local man for allegedly speeding led to his arrest Monday night on a misdemeanor drug charge.
Christopher Jarred Berry, 31, who lists an address of 1169 Crystal Hill Road, was taken into custody shortly before 11 p.m. and charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, punishable by up to one year in jail, and cited for no proof of insurance and speeding. Berry was later released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear March 25 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, around 10:45 p.m., Garland County sheriff ’s Deputies Charles E. Delahunt and Richard Huffman were running radar in the 700 block of Crystal Hill Road when they clocked a silver Nissan doing 50 mph in a 30 mph zone and stopped it in the 900 block.
When they made contact with the driver, identified as Berry, they noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana coming from the car, but Berry denied that there was anything in the vehicle.
Huffman ran his K-9 partner, Cal, around the vehicle and he allegedly alerted on the driver’s side door so the deputies searched in that area. Huffman located two small plastic bags with approximately 8.1 grams of marijuana in the middle of the dash.
Berry was taken into custody without further incident.
