THEFT FROM AUTOS
In the past several days, Officers from Western District have responded to multiple calls for theft from autos in the Piney Orchard Community and surrounding areas. During each of the incidents, the suspect(s) are using various means to gain entry into the vehicles to include:
a. Using an unknown tool to punch out the door lock
b. Entering unlocked vehicles
c. Prying the window away from its track
d. Smashing the window
The suspect(s) appear to be targeting electronic items such as GPS systems, phones and iPads/iPods.
Citizens are asked to take preventive measures to help reduce the chances of becoming a victim of a theft from auto. Some suggestions include:
a. Never leave ANY valuable items in plain view. Items such as GPS's, iPads/iPods, laptop computers, cell phones, cameras, wallets and purses should all be kept inside the trunk or in the center console/glove box when not in use. This would also include any charging cords that are used for any of these devices.
b. Never leave any gift wrapped packages out in the open.
c. Park in well lit areas when possible.
d. Consider adding an alarm to your car
e. Leave the exterior lights on around the outside of your home.
f. LOCK ALL OF YOUR DOORS!!!!!!!!!
These theft from autos have occurred on the following streets in the past few days:
Dayspring Drive
Winding Stream Way
Blue Spring Court
Apple Blossom Lane
Realm Court
All of the theft from autos have been occurring during the overnight hours.
