During the weekend of January 17-20th, Industry Station Explorer Post 712 participated in the Chandler Police Department annual Explorer Tactical Competition which was held at four different venues near Chandler, Arizona.
Over 1,000 competitors from 58 different law enforcement agencies from throughout the United States competed during the event. Industry Sheriff's Explorer Post 712 competed with two teams, comprising of 24 explorers ranging in age from 15-20 competed in 17 of the 25 events. Some of these events included a Vehicle Assault Scenario, a Small Team Marijuana Raid Scenario, a Rapid Response Scenario, an Officer Hostage Rescue Team Scenario, a Sniper Challenge, a Pistol Shoot, a Crisis Negotiation Team Scenario, a Hogan's Alley Scenario, a Tactical Emergency Medical Services Scenario, a SWAT Fitness Challenge, and the TK-4 (armored vehicle) Pull. At the end of the grueling two days Industry Station Explorers had won the following awards: Placing 1st and 3rd in the 5K individual runs, 2nd in the SWAT Fitness Challenge, 5th in Hogan's Alley scenario, and 2nd in the Vertical Assault climb.
The experience the explorers gleaned from Sheriff's Department personnel who graciously donated their time and expertise (former Special Enforcement Bureau personnel, current Transit Services Bureau personnel, and Reserve-Medic personnel) to make sure that Industry explorers were well prepared was greatly appreciated. A special thanks goes out to the coaches of "Walnut Crossfit" who donated their equipment, and facility for 3 months to physically train the explorers. Out of the six "physical" events, Industry Explorers gathered honors in three of these events.
