Portsmouth Police Are Searching For A Burglary Suspect
The Portsmouth Police Department is asking for help in locating a suspect who burglarized a home on March 10, 2014. Police are searching for 46 year-old William E. Proffitt, Jr. of the 10 block of Emmons Place, Portsmouth.
According to detectives, on March 10, 2014 Proffitt kicked in the door of a home in the 10 block of Woodland Street. After entering the home, Proffitt took several pieces of jewelry and US Currency before leaving the location. Detectives located the victim’s stolen jewelry, which Proffitt had pawned at two local pawn shops, several days later.
Proffitt is described as a white male, approximately 5’11” tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Proffitt has also been known to reside in the 500 block of Beacon Road, Portsmouth and 4600 block of Peek Trail, Chesapeake. Proffitt currently has active warrants for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Larceny with the Intent to Sell, Destruction of Property and Obtaining Money by False Pretenses.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of William E. Proffitt, Jr. is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. You do not have to give your name or testify in court. If your information leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.00
