Suspicious Package at DA’s Office Declared Safe; Area reopened as investigation concluded
Franklin, TN – Emergency responders were summoned to the District Attorney’s Office, 421 Main Street, at 8:40 this morning to investigate a suspicious package. A worker there was sorting through the morning mail when she identified a package that, due to its characteristics and markings, concerned her enough to place it outside and alert authorities. An arriving Franklin Police supervisor agreed that the package was suspicious and requested the Tennessee Highway Patrol Bomb Squad to the scene. Other responders included the Franklin Fire Department, Williamson County EMS, and Emergency Management.
The alley and parking area between 4th and 5th Avenues were cordoned off until the Bomb Squad, using special equipment, determined that the package was safe. The package, addressed to District Attorney General Kim Helper, contained evidence in a potential criminal matter and is not believed to have been intended to cause any alarm. THP surrendered possession of the package to General Helper.
Anytime there is a question, Franklin’s emergency responders are going to manage these incidents according to protocol, in an abundance of caution, to ensure public safety. The area was reopened to the public at 10:26.
