In 2013, there were nine (9) crashes which resulted in fatalities in the Eastern District. Six (6) of those fatal crashes involved pedestrians and another involved a bicyclist. In all seven incidents, the pedestrians and the bicyclist were determined to have been at-fault.

As a reminder, please use caution when crossing or walking along roadways. If a crosswalk is provided, please use it. At intersections controlled by traffic signals, wait until cross traffic has stopped before entering the roadway.

If there is a sidewalk available, please consider using it. Also, when walking, jogging or bike riding on or near roadways, wear clothing that is bright and visible to motorists.

Using caution and practicing safety will help avoid dangerous situations as pedestrians.
