Two suspects arrested for DVD Piracy after joint investigation
On Thursday 03/20/2014 the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Nashville Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation along with the Secretary of State’s Office, executed a search warrant on 214 E. Sixth Street in Nashville. The warrant was for illegally-made DVD movies and music CD’s. This has been an ongoing investigation where the suspects were involved in the above crime and one or both may be suspects in other computer crimes in various states, which is still under investigation.
During the search of the residence both Ronnie Taylor Sr. and Ronnie James Taylor Jr. were taken into custody for "Recording devices to show true name and address of manufacturer", NCGS 14-435. There were 9,246 DVD movies seized and 532 music CD’s for a total of 9,778 discs seized, at a street value of $109,686.00 Also seized were 8 computers, printers and a large amount of various computer software. The movie DVD’s ranged from top rated movies to hardcore pornographic movies.
Both suspects were charged with 2 felony counts of the above charge each and were placed in Nash County Jail under a $10,000.00 secured bond.
“ Most people think that people hacking computers and committing fraud with computers are mostly out of state or overseas, when in actuality they can be your next door neighbor. Hopefully this investigation will send a message to the ones involved in other fraud cases in Nash County that we will not stand for it", states Lt. Todd Wells, Investigative Division Commander.
