A routine traffic stop ended with the arrest of a local man on a felony drug charge after numerous packages of marijuana and a large amount of cash were found in his possession.
Oland Santrail Veasley, 27, who lists an address of 301 Brenda St., was taken into custody shortly after 7:30 p.m. and charged with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to six years in prison.
He was later released on $2,500 bond and is set to appear April 15 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Clayton Green was headed west on Airport Road and got behind a white 2003 Ford Crown Victoria and noted it changed lanes without signalling, so he stopped it in the parking lot of Chesswood Plaza, 1331 Airport Road.
He made contact with the driver, identified as Veasley, who told him he didn’t have a driver’s license. Green states he noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car and a computer check confirmed Veasley’s license was suspended.
He asked Veasley if there was any marijuana in his car and he handed over a clear sack that contained numerous individually packaged baggies of what appeared to be marijuana, a total of 60 bags with one gram of marijuana in each.
The deputy noted a bulge in both of the suspect’s front pockets, which Veasley reportedly admitted was money. The cash was recovered and found to be approximately $1,710.
Green notified the 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force and a DTF agent met the deputy and suspect at the detention center to assist with the investigation.
In addition to the felony charge, Veasley was also cited for failing to signal.
The DTF is composed of officers with the GCSD, Hot Springs Police Department and Arkansas State Police
