City of Maricopa House Fire
April 7th 2014
Maricopa, Ariz
At approximately 8:15 a.m. crews from Maricopa, Gila River, and Sun Lakes Fire Departments responded to the 40000 block of W. Thornberry LN in Maricopa for reports of a house fire.
Upon arrival crews observed a small amount of smoke coming from the second floor eaves of a two story residence. Crews quickly deployed hose lines, forced entry through the locked front door and went inside the structure. Once inside, City of Maricopa Fire Department personnel found that smoke had filled the structure, but saw no visible flames. After a thorough search for any possible victims was completed, with no findings, crews continued to search for the source of the smoke.
Smoke continued to come from the eaves of the home as firefighters checked for a possible fire in the attic and/or walls. After the smoke was cleared from the building the source of the smoke was found. A fire in the kitchen of the home had burned itself out prior to arrival of fire personnel, but was still giving off a good deal of smoke.
There were no injuries to residents or fire personnel. Officers from the Maricopa Police Department were on scene first and told fire crews that the home was locked with no answers to repeated attempts to alert residents. The officers were also able to safely remove a dog from the backyard of the home.
