Weather Siren Testing
The Hamburg Township Fire Department has completed the first phase and installed four tornado and severe weather sirens in Hamburg Township. The siren locations are in the area of M-36 & Chambers Rd., Pettysville Rd. & Rush Lake Rd., Chilson Rd. & M-36, and Strawberry Lake Rd. & Merrill Rd. These current locations cover all of the Lakelands Trail and Bennett Park along with a high percentage of the population of Hamburg Township. More weather sirens have been plan to be installed in the future.
The Hamburg Township Fire Department will be running its first operational test of the Weather Sirens on Friday April 11, 2014 at
1 p.m. weather permitting. Each siren should activate at the same time and should last for three minutes. After the initial operational test the sirens will then be tested monthly, on the 1st Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. to confirm all equipment is operational. No operational test will happen during potentially severe weather.
If you hear the severe weather sirens during a severe weather event you need to go inside (if not possible, go to a low lying area), take shelter and if possible turn on a weather radio, radio or TV to find out why the sirens have been activated. DO NOT call 911 for more information. Only use 911 for emergencies.
