Sat Apr 12, #LASD Internal Affairs Bureau and @EastLALASD Investigate Deputy Involved Shooting, East Los Angeles

Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Internal Affairs Bureau and East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved, non-hit shooting, which occurred Saturday, April 12, , in the 6000 block of 6th Street, East Los Angeles. 

Detectives have learned that after the suspect fled the 6000 block of 6th Street, he fired again upon the deputies as he ran toward the 600 block of South School Avenue, and barricaded himself inside of a residence. 

Special Enforcement Bureau personnel responded and contacted the suspect, who exited the building and surrendered to deputies. 

No deputies were injured. 

The suspect was not injured. 

The suspect, identified as David Martinez, male/30, resident of Commerce, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

A firearm was recovered from the scene. 

There is no further information available at this time. 

Whenever an Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and the suspect is not wounded, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau as well as Sheriff's station or Detective Division investigators. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review.
