* at 751 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
large area of rain expanding into central and northern lower
Michigan. Most of the area will receive 1 to 2 inches of rain
tonight... with locally higher amounts possible. This is on top of
the 1 to 2 inches that fell near and south of the M-55 corridor
late Saturday.
* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Cadillac... Frankfort... Gladwin... Grayling... Harrisville... Houghton
Lake... Kalkaska... Lake City... Manistee... Mio... Oscoda...
Standish... Tawas City... Traverse City..and West Branch.
Rivers and creeks are nearly full in much of northern lower
Michigan. Minor flooding is already ongoing along parts of the
Manistee and Rifle rivers. High water has been reported along
portions of the upper Platte River in Benzie County... and the Cedar
River in Gladwin County. Additional substantial rainfall tonight
will cause flooding to worsen and become more widespread.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... country roads... as well as farmland along the
banks of creeks and streams.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. Do not enter flood waters. Turn around and move
up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas
subject to flooding when water begins rising.
