Weather situational awareness posted for the next few days.
The National Weather Service has advised that although not a major storm, a strong cold front will bring a variety of hazards as it pushes through the region Tuesday and Tuesday night. Rain is expected to begin Tuesday mid-morning and end Wednesday morning, in general totals will be 1 - 2” however, there could be 2” in some locations which has the potential to cause minor to moderate flooding. The NH Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau is monitoring the rivers closely. The primary areas of concern due to the rain and snowmelt include: Connecticut River at Dalton, Woodsville and West Lebanon; Pemigewasset River at Woodstock and Plymouth and the Saco River at Conway.
Summary:
· A Flood Watch has been issued for the entire State through Wednesday evening.
· A Flood Warning has been issued for areas along the Connecticut River near Dalton, Woodsville and West Lebanon.
· Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches may produce minor to moderate flooding of rivers and streams. Minor urban flooding is possible across the entire region, especially during the Tuesday evening commute.
· Southerly wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected.
· Coastal flooding is not expected due to astronomically low tides.
· Cold air behind the front late Tuesday night may cause the rain to end as a wintry mix of snow and sleet across the interior, where icy spots are possible for the Wednesday morning commute.
· Once this cold front moves out on Wednesday morning, the remainder of the week will be sunny with temps in the high 40s to mid 50s and no precipitation.
