Drunk Driving/Fleeing and Eluding arrest
At approximately 1:53 A.M. on Friday, April 18, 2014, Officer Rick Rodden, of the Columbia Township Police Department, was stationary on M-50 near Palmer Road in Columbia Township when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound on M-50 at 70 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.
He attempted to initiate a traffic stop using his siren and emergency lights, but the suspect refused to stop, and continued to flee, increasing his speed. The roads were clear and dry at the time, and other traffic was not present.
The chase went North on M-50, then East on Austin Road, eventually going through the Village of Manchester, where a Washetenaw County deputy assigned to the Village of Manchester assisted by backing up Officer Rodden.
The suspect left the Village of Manchester traveling North on M-52, then West onto Sharon Valley Road, where the suspect lost control of the Chevy Trailblazer, left the roadway and rolled over onto the vehicle’s roof, damaging a fence.
The suspect, Kendall Austin Anderson, 19, of Jackson, was uninjured, and was taken into custody. A preliminary breath test was administered, showing a blood-alcohol reading of approximately .12%. He was transported to Allegiance Hospital for a blood draw, and was then lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
On Friday afternoon, April 18th, Anderson was charged by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office with OWI 2nd offense (misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended 2nd offense (misdemeanor), and 3rd Degree Fleeing and Eluding (5 year felony).
