TAKE ACTION AND STOP DISTRACTIONS - APRIL IS DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH

Because the consequences can be disastrous and rob us of wonderful people.

Larry Davis's Story

I watched as the squad car slowly glided up the long driveway to the farm... Wondering why it was visiting this home? It was the first warm beautiful day in April.

I walked out to greet the vehicle. Both officers got out and hurried toward each side of me. And then though shocking words that shattered my life into a million painful pieces: "Your wife was struck down by a young girl as she walked on Highway P." Today, 5 years later...the words, still rattling around in my unquiet soul...searching for meaning.

My wife Julie's walking partner gets out of the car crying...this is not a dream...my best friend, my partner, my soulmate... is forever gone. Words to tell the kids...the funeral...saying last goodbyes to a cold, still body in the ditch, in Rudolph.

It's like I've had to swallow a hot burning coal...and the coal burns all the way down and sears my insides...and I can't get away from it. Today, five years later it still burns down there.

My friends, help me understand why this tragedy was not entirely avoidable? Why do people drive distractively?
