Portsmouth Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony 
The Portsmouth Police Department and the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office will honor their fallen law enforcement brothers and sisters on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. The memorial ceremony will be held at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church located at 2714 Frederick Boulevard, Portsmouth, Va. This year the Police Cross will be presented to the family of fallen Police Detective Garland L. Joyner, Jr. who was killed on March 18, 1984. The Police Cross is awarded to the family of a police officer who has made the supreme sacrifice of his or her life while in the line of duty. Taking part in this presentation of this prestigious award is Portsmouth Police Chief Edward Hargis and Chief Deputy Attorney General, Cynthia Hudson.
