LASD Parks Bureau Host 4th Annual Basketball Challenge
70 children, ages 7-14, participated in this year’s 4th Annual Basketball Challenge hosted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Due to inclement weather conditions, high winds and cold temperatures, the event was moved into the Joe Walker/George Lane Park gymnasium. The participants competed in four skills competitions and were given a thirty minute basketball clinic by Gary Thomas, President of the Antelope Valley Hoya’s Travel League. First, second, and third place trophies were awarded in each division. The participants each received a t-shirt and treated to pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, chips, cookies, and cotton candy. There were many raffle prizes given to those lucky enough to have their numbers drawn.
Deputy Chris Deaville, coordinator of the event, said that this event only happens with the assistance of Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and the community. Contributors such as Antelope Valley Chevrolet, Coca-Cola Distributors, Der Wienerschnitzel and many other local businesses make this event possible.
Many parents commented on the great time they and their children had and how they’re looking forward to participating next year.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
