This alert serves as a reminder: There is a wide variety of fraudulent check scams making their way through our community at any given time.

Recent scam discovered: A person received a check in the mail made payable to them from the "Woodforest National Bank" in Texas. Along with the check were instructions on how to be paid, including a request for an email and text message.

There was no validity to this check or the bank whatsoever.

If you receive checks like this, simply shred the paperwork. Do not email or text the sender. Never provide your personal information to anyone via electronic communication unless you absolutely trust the recipient (and only as a last resort).
