Stabbing involving Students near Los Banos Junior High School

On May 1, 2014 at approximately 9:54 a.m., Los Banos Police Officers responded to the report of a stabbing at the park west of the Los Banos Junior High School. Students and staff from the school were at the park for a scheduled fire drill when the stabbing occurred.

Officers quickly located the suspect in a dirt field approximately two blocks west of the park; he was being detained by school staff. The 14-year-old male suspect was taken into custody by Police and the weapon was located.

The 13-year-old male victim suffered stab wounds to the upper body and arms. He was air-lifted to an out of County hospital for treatment and his condition is unknown at this time.

“The suspect and victim both attend the school; at this point we believe there was a dispute between the suspect and victim just prior to the stabbing. This appears to be an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.”
- Jason Hedden, Police Commander
