On Friday, May 02, 2014, at approximately 8:00 P.M., Cypress Police Officers were conducting a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in the area of Valley View Street and Lincoln Avenue. The checkpoint had been open for approximately one half hour, when a collision occurred at the beginning of the checkpoint entry area. Officers discovered three vehicles involved in a collision with multiple injuries to the parties involved. Three victims were transported to local hospitals, two of which were transported to a trauma center with moderate injuries. All three victims are in stable condition. The cause of the collision was the result of the suspect failing to slow for vehicles already in the checkpoint lanes, resulting in a significant rear end collision.

The suspect, who was identified as Eric Paul Ivanoff (D.O.B. 10/02/1979), fled the scene on foot. He was located nearby and became combative with officers. He was subsequently taken into custody and placed under arrest for violations of C.V.C. 20001(a) – hit and run with injury; C.V.C. 23153(a) – DUI with injury; P.C. 69 – resisting an officer with violence; and P.C. 148(a) – resisting arrest. He was transported to Orange County Jail and is being held on $100,000.00 bail. One officer sustained minor injuries while taking the suspect into custody.
