Correctional Employee Week Proclamation
Please join us in recognizing all the Steuben County Sheriff's Office Confinement Officers for Correctional Employees Week. Last month, Indiana Governor Michael Pence signed an Executive Order proclaiming May 4-10, 2014 as "Correctional Employees Week" as a reflection of the 30th Anniversary of Proclamation 5187 (below) signed by former President Reagan in 1984.
This is the week that we recognize and appreciate those that serve this community by working in and around the jail, transporting inmates, or protecting the court house. The role and responsibility of a confinement officer is a critical part of ensuring the safety of the citizens we all serve. It is often a very dangerous career with duties taken on by the Officers that go far beyond the basics of service. Since the public does not see Confinement Officers as often as those in patrol or investigations, they are sometimes overlooked. We also want to recognize Steuben County Probation Officers and Steuben County Community Corrections employees. This week has been established to remind us of the sacrifice these fine Men and Women make every day in serving our community. I am very thankful for each of them, the duties they perform every day without waiver and the high level of professionalism they bring to our jail and this community. Please join me in giving thanks to those Correctional Officers, Probation Officers, Community Corrections employees and their service to Steuben County.
