At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, Fruitport Township Police Department responded to a car vs. motorcycle personal injury crash in the area of Shettler Road and Swanson Lane.
Upon arrival, officers found the drivers of both the car and the motorcycle to be conscious and alert. The drivers of the involved vehicles were the only occupants of their respective vehicles.
During the investigation, officers learned the Pontiac Grand Prix had been traveling eastbound on Shettler Road. The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Shettler Road. The driver of the Grand Prix, when making a left turn onto northbound Swanson Lane, turned into the path of the westbound motorcycle. The motorcycle and the car collided, causing the driver of the motorcycle to be thrown from the bike.
The driver of the car, a Pontiac Grand Prix, had no reported injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was transported from the scene to Hackley Hospital by ProMed Ambulance for multiple non-life-threatening injuries.
The motorcycle driver was properly licensed and endorsed to operate a motorcycle. The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this crash.
Fruitport Township Fire Department and ProMed Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The names of the drivers are not being released by police at this time.
