UPDATE: Mountain lion safely tranquilized and transported
The mountain lion is safe as is our community! We were, with assistance from Department of Fish and Wildlife, able to tranquilize the mountain lion who was then transported to safety. Thank you all for your patience during this rather unusual occurrence.

MOUNTAIN VIEW MOUNTAIN LION RECAP: Multi-reports of mountain lion near 200 block of Rengstorff initially came into our department. We established a perimeter, cleared and locked down areas. Mountain View officers along with outside agency assistance from Palo Alto Police Department, City of Los Altos Police Department, Sunnyvale DPS and more arrived to help out (thank you!). The community has been great staying out of the area and sheltering in-place.
A community member alerted us to a non-profit that tags mountain lions. We contacted them, but unsure if it's one of theirs.
At this time, we believe we've located the mountain lion in the 2000 block of California Street and are working with the Game Warden on a safe and successful extraction plan. Our primary objective is to ensure the safety of all of those nearby first, and we will do everything we can to extend that to the mountain lion.
Thank you for your patience!
