http://www.metro.net/bikes/bike-week/

Thursday May 15th, 2014 is Bike to Work Day. Valley Traffic Division officers will be out assisting bicyclists commuting along bicycle corridors with bicycle lanes. Providing traffic enforcement for bicycle lane violations. The most common violations are motorists driving in the bicycle lane, to pass slow or stopped traffic. Drivers are reminded that we may only drive in the bicycle lane for the last 200 feet to prepare for a turn, or to cross it to enter or leave a drive way. The bicycle lane is not to be used as a passing lane. See 21209 of the California Vehicle Code. Additionally, if you are exiting a parked car, look for approaching bicyclists and do not open your vehicle door, until you are 100 % it is safe to do so. This is also called the Door Zone. See 22517 of the California Vehicle Code.
