Southern Pines Police Department Announces:
Employee of the Quarter Award
for the 1st Quarter – 2014
The Southern Pines Police Department is pleased to announce the Employee of the Quarter Award for the 1st Quarter of 2014. This award recognizes police department employees who have provided exemplary service to the community or performed in a manner worthy of recognition. This award is the result of a peer nomination and action by the supervisory and command staff of the Southern Pines Police Department.
Acting Sergeant Dana Smith and his K-9 partner Boely are the recipients of this award for the 1st Quarter of 2014. Acting Sergeant Dana Smith was selected due to his tenacious efforts in investigating incidents which occurred during the 1st Quarter of 2014. These incidents included the recovery of multiple items of stolen property, the apprehension of three suspects involved in breaking and entering incidents, the arrest of a suspect which resulted in the recovery of cocaine, marijuana and a semi-automatic pistol. In addition, in spite of being assaulted by a violent combative mentally ill patient, Acting Sergeant Smith was able to safely secure this patient so treatment could be provided.
Acting Sergeant Dana Smith is also a member of the Southern Pines Police Department’s Special Response Team which has conducted several successful search warrant operations during the 1st Quarter of 2014. In his the award letter presented to Acting Sergeant Dana Smith, Chief Temme stated:
It is recognition of your performance in carrying out your duties, an it is also indicative of the effort you put forth on a daily basis to serve the community and support our mission to make a difference in the lives of others. I appreciate your dedication to the department, the community and the manner in which you carry out your daily activity.
The Southern Pines Police Department is proud to recognize Acting Sergeant Dana Smith with this award. He represents the professionalism and dedication to the community which is indicative of all members of the Southern Pines Police Department.
