Advisory

Red Flag Warning in effect thru 8pm, Wed. May 14. Monrovia Fire Department on patrol in the foothills.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning which will remain in effect until 8 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, May 14 for the valleys and mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles County for gust north to northeast winds and low relative humidity.

The Monrovia Fire Department is monitoring the situation and will be conducting fire patrols in the Monrovia foothills.  Updates will be provided if necessary.

Canyon Park and the Hillside Wilderness Preserve are still OPEN, however please check back on the City's website www.cityofmonrovia.org should conditions worsen.

A pressure gradient of around -2.8mb was observed from the Los Angeles Coast to the upper desert this morning and is expected to strengthen Tuesday morning and again Wednesday morning to around -6mb.  The upper level support this morning was around 20mph and is expected to range from around 30mph Tuesday morning to around 40mph Wednesday morning.  Areas of northeast winds 15-25mph with gusts at 45pmh this morning are expected to weaken but then increase early Tuesday morning.

The northeast winds will weaken Tuesday evening and then increase again Wednesday morning.  A warming and drying trend will occur thru Wednesday with temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal and widespread single-digit relative humidity.

WINDS: 10 to 20mph with gusts up to 30mph today and 15-25mph with gusts up to 45mph Tuesday and Wednesday.  The strongest winds will occur in the hills and in the morning through the middle of the afternoon.

RELATIVE HUMIDITY: Humidity between 4 and 10 percent, with limited overnight recovery.

TEMPERATURES: Upper 80s to mid-90s today to middle 90s to 104.  The warmest day will occur on Wednesday.

IMPACTS: Extreme fire behavior is possible if fire ignition occurs.

If fire ignition occurs, there could be a rapid spread of wildfire that would lead to a threat of life and property.  A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring with strong winds, very low relative humidity, and warm temperatures that create extreme fire behavior.

Residents living in high fire areas should log on to www.ready.gov to learn more about how to prepare and take steps in the event of a fire.
