Burglary Suspect Located / Arrested
Multiple business burglaries were reported to Fruitport Township Police Department on the morning of Thursday, May 29, 2014. The businesses were entered by force. Cash and other valuables were stolen from the businesses. Employees of the following businesses discovered the break-ins when they arrived for work Thursday morning:
Norm's Ice Cream, 350 N. 3rd
Fruitport Oil Change and Car Wash, 345 N. 3rd
Village Inn, 340 N. 3rd
Each of these businesses are located within the Village of Fruitport, in close proximity to one another.
Surveillance videos from the businesses were reviewed by police. The suspect, a 41-year-old-male, was able to be identified by police from the surveillance videos. Law enforcement representatives from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and Fruitport Township Police Department worked together for several hours throughout the overnight hours last night to locate the suspect.
Following an extensive search, the suspect was located by officers early this morning (Friday, May 30, 2014) hiding inside a vacant mobile home in the Hidden Oaks mobile home park. Hidden Oaks mobile home park is located on Apple Drive in Ottawa County – just outside Fruitport.
The suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail on charges unrelated to the break-ins in Fruitport.
No further information regarding these incidents, including the name of the suspect, is being released at this time.
