Two arrested in 2012 nightclub killing of Marcel Jackson, Detroit 300 volunteer
Detroit— A two-year homicide investigation wrapped up this week with the arrests of a pair suspected of killing a volunteer with the Detroit 300 citizen activist group outside a downtown Detroit nightclub.
Marcel Jackson, a 39-year-old father of six, was gunned down June 20, 2012, while working as a bouncer at the Pandemonium nightclub in the 400 block of Congress.
Jackson, owner of the Southfield executive protection agency United Security and Urban Services, reportedly kicked a man out of the club for hitting a woman. Police say the man returned after the bar closed to retrieve his cellphone.
Security guards reportedly wouldn't let the man in because he refused to be patted down, so he returned with another man and fired shots, striking Jackson in the back. He later died at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
In the days before his death, Jackson, as part of Detroit 300, searched for a man who allegedly had raped a 13-year-old girl on the city’s west side.
Investigators have monitored the two suspects since shortly after the slaying, Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody said.
“The Homicide Section was very diligent from the get-go,” Woody said. “They processed the evidence in a timely fashion, and followed up with the prosecutor regularly to ensure they had what they needed to get the warrants signed. It took a while to get to that point, but keeping tabs and records on these two guys, knowing where they were at all times, paid off.”
One of the suspects was extradited from another state, Woody said.
