AACOPD Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics - tomorrow along SB Ritchie Hwy. 9-11:30am. Cheer us on!
Happening Tomorrow: Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Anne Arundel County Police Department is proud to announce its participation once again in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. This is the run’s 28th anniversary in Maryland.
In an effort to help raise money and awareness for the athletes taking part in the Summer Games, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, Anne Arundel County Police Officers will be running approximately fifteen miles. Officers will begin at approximately 9 a.m. at the Glen Burnie Town Center and travel along Ritchie Highway through the communities of Arnold, Severna Park, Pasadena and Glen Burnie ending at the Naval Academy Bridge at approximately 11:30 a.m.
This year’s Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run Ambassador is once again Special Olympian Michael Heup of Davidsonville, who will be the Guest of Honor for the Anne Arundel County Police run. As ambassador, Michael will represent the entire State of Maryland at the International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference this September. Don't miss your chance to see the exciting Law Enforcement Torch Run. Come out and join us by cheering our runners as the Flame of Hope travels up Ritchie Highway. The torch will ultimately arrive via relay at the Opening Ceremony for the 2014 Summer Special Olympics being held at Towson University from June 6-8. Last year’s efforts throughout the year raised over $20,000 for Special Olympics Maryland.
