Advisory

Pets and rising temperatures don’t mix well in motor vehicles.

Summer is on the door step and already we’re into the 90’s for daytime temperatures. The Department of Public Safety would like to take a moment to remind everyone that leaving a pet in a parked car—even for “just a minute”—while you run an errand is extremely dangerous. On an 80 degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar to as high as 100 degrees in just minutes. On a 90 degree day, the interior temperature can reach between 120 and 160 degrees in less than 10 minutes. With a little help we can better ensure that our pets are healthy and safe.

If you happen to pass by the window of a car and realize that an animal has been left inside on a hot day please contact the Department of Public Safety and report the incident. Emergency 9-1-1 Non-Emergency 314-835-6200.
