Police Investigate Shooting
On May 31, 2014 at approximately 5:47 p.m., Los Banos Police Officers were investigating an unrelated disturbance call in the area of Jeffrey Road and Canal Farm Lane. The investigating officer heard guns shots coming from the area of Jeffery Road and San Luis Street.
Officers arrived at the scene within moments, and observed a known gang member walking in the area. The gang member was detained, pending further investigation.
Several witnesses reported seeing a Hispanic male shooting at a silver sedan, which was believed to have been driven by rival gang members. The suspect was last seen running from the area and was described as a Hispanic male adult, early 20’s, 5’8” to 6’ tall, having a thin build, wearing a red or black ball cap, black hooded sweatshirt, and black gym style shorts.
While searching the area, Officers stopped a silver vehicle matching the description, occupied by a known gang member in the area of Mercy Springs Road and D Street. The vehicle occupants were questioned but no weapons or other evidence was located.
“We are grateful to the witnesses who came forward to help investigators piece this crime together. It is frustrating when these crimes occur and our victims, in this case rival gang members, are uncooperative with police.”
- Jason Hedden, Police Commander
