Advisory

Update on burglary investigation in Clarklake.

Date: June 5, 2014

Location: Columbia Township

Authority: David K. Elwell, Chief of Police

The Columbia Township Police Department reports that the parole absconder Scott Allen Waters has been apprehended.

It was previously reported (June 4, 2014) that Waters was being sought as a parole absconder, as well as for a residential burglary and vehicle theft on Grand Boulevard at Clarklake. That information was disseminated, along with his photograph and a picture of the vehicle that was stolen.

At approximately 9:45 A.M. on Thursday, June 5, a citizen reported the vehicle was parked at the Clarklake County Park on Ocean Beach Road. Columbia Township officers responded, and located the vehicle parked among approximately four other vehicles. It was not occupied.

The MSP K-9 unit was requested, and simultaneously, the most recent residence of Waters was searched, which is approximately a quarter-mile from the park. Waters was NOT located at the residence, but officers continued to canvas and search the neighborhood, making contact with residents in the area. Waters was then spotted in the area, and he fled running North from North Lake Road, between houses and through a corn field. Officers gave chase, and eventually caught up to him and took him in to custody.

Waters has been lodged at the Jackson County Jail on the absconding warrant, as well as the additional charges of home invasion and auto theft. Additional charges stemming from the arrest are being reviewed at this time. The report will be forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for authorization of charges.

The recovered vehicle will be returned to the owner after it has been processed for evidence.

Assisting at the scene was a deputy from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, several Troopers from the Michigan State Police (including 2 canine units), and Troopers from the MSP Fugitive team.
