Note:
The successes in crime reduction have put LAPD’s West Los Angeles Area number 3, out of the 21 geographical divisions, in the entire City in terms of crime reduction year to date, This is all the more remarkable when you consider that we have consistently been on a downward trend already. I want our Area successes to continue and I certainly don’t want the Brentwood area to lose any ground. So I implore you, please take action in your homes and community. The simplest of changes in habits can make a marked difference in terms of the likelihood of criminal activity. Again, don’t leave items within your vehicle when parked—anywhere, period. But take this one step further and educate all the members of your family, friends and neighbors not to do so either. Always lock your doors and windows before leaving your residence. But take it one step further and make a consistent habit of taking a house lap before leaving to ensure that this is the case. I can’t tell you how many times I realized I left the bathroom window cracked open (a common entry point for burglars). When having the housekeepers or contractors in the house, always secure your valuables ahead of time. But take it one step further and try and be home and in the vicinity where they are working. If you look above under ‘Thefts’ there are some significant loses of some very trusting people. So let’s all stay vigilant and not complacent when we see something suspicious or unusual.
We have seven Basic Cars (areas) within the West LA area, Brentwood being one of them. I refuse to be the Basic Car that loses ground in crime reduction. Take those extra steps, stay aware and report any and all suspicious activity (877-ask-lapd). Or take it one step further and start a Neighborhood Watch.
And lastly, a huge thank you goes out to the Brentwood Home Owner’s Association for their generous contribution to our Police Memorial Foundation. The Los Angeles Police Department has experienced some significant losses and this foundation provides the costs of officer funerals and ensures that the children of fallen officers receive a paid college education, in addition to other contributions. On behalf of LAPD officers everywhere, THANK YOU so very much for your kind consideration during our difficult time.
All the best,
Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray
