Sheriff’s deputies from Lakewood Station participated in a Tip-A-Cop fund raising event to benefit Special Olympics of Southern California at the Chili’s and Elephant Bar restaurants in Lakewood last Tuesday night.

On June 17, 2014, uniformed deputies served as celebrity wait staff to collect tips for the athletes of the Special Olympics of Southern California.  This worthy cause proved to be a fun challenge as the deputies gave “Protect and Serve” a whole new meaning.  The deputies paired with employees from the host restaurants, serving delicious fare to hungry patrons.  The annual event gave our deputies a chance to greet and serve community members who came out to support the cause.  Special Olympics athletes were also on hand, mingling with the diners and handing out replica medals.  A great time was had by all, and the deputies and athletes look forward to similar events in the future!
