Recent Stealings from Motor Vehicles
Officers from this department have recently responded to two separate incidents where vehicle windows were broken and items were removed. The Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone that you should not leave valuables in your vehicle if at all possible. If you cannot remove these items, as it is not practical, it is best that they be placed out of sight (i.e. in the trunk, under a seat, glove box, etc…). Would be thieves will often pass on a locked vehicle that appears to have nothing of value contained inside. The larger majority are looking for the easiest target with a higher probability of payoff. In other words if the vehicle is locked and there is nothing of value immediately visible, they will move on to the next vehicle. This process only takes a few seconds, and most thieves can cover an entire parking lot or neighborhood street in a matter of minutes. Please remind your friends and family to take a few extra seconds and better secure your valuables before leaving your vehicle unattended. With your help we can lower the number of victims of these types of crimes.
