Saving Innocence on Sepulveda Boulevard
On Thursday, June 19, 2014, the Van Nuys Area Vice Unit along with Detective Support and Vice Division (DSVD) Human Trafficking Unit, West Valley, Mission and Devonshire Area Vice Units participated in the FBI “Saving Innocence” Taskforce. The purpose of the operation was to identify and rescue minor victims of human trafficking on the Sepulveda Boulevard Corridor.
In the four hour operation, undercover male officers posing as “johns” arrested nine women for solicitation of prostitution. Although none of the women were minors, they were offered services, including clothing, referrals to shelters, health care facilities and other programs.
The operation is part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative, which was created in 2003 by the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division to crack down on child prostitution.
“In addition to arresting individuals for acts of prostitution, part of our efforts is providing services and referrals to the victims of the sex trafficking industry,” said Van Nuys Vice Sergeant Ron Fisher.
