“At this time the City has deemed the Walnut Creek area to be near flood stage - the time at which overflow of the natural stream bank begins to reach personal property and effects. Residents and business owners should take action to monitor the rise of Walnut Creek closely over the next few hours. Waters will rise quickly and large floating debris and other hazards are possible if your properly immediately abuts to Walnut Creek. At this time water level estimates are NOT being predicted to threaten physical structures; therefore, there are no sandbag stations being mobilized. However, there is potential for water intrusion into yards, over trails, into parking lots, and storm sewer systems.

The National Weather Service said a flash flood warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Some locations that will experience flooding include: Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Altoona, Pleasant Hill, Grimes, Windsor Heights, and Polk City

Radar indicates over 3 inches of rain may have fallen in this area and with heavy rain continuing into this afternoon flash flooding is possible
