Advisory

Alexandria has experienced 3 home invasions in the last 24 hours. See email for more. Be vigilant - Please!

Within the last 24 hours Alexandria PD finds itself working 3 home invasions or burglaries. The MO appears to be the same in all three cases. Residents are leaving vehicles unlocked that contain garage door openers. The garage is opened only a small amount (enough for person to crawl under), thus there is very little noise. The subjects then have access to the inner house via pedestrian door from inside the garage. Many people leave their wallets, purses, car keys and other effects on kitchen counter tops, tables, etc. The subjects grab a purse or cash from the wallet and are exiting quickly via same way they came in.

If you are a victim, or you suspect you are a victim, please dial 911 immediately.

To protect yourselves and others, because these people are coming into the homes while the residents are asleep, insure you lock your car doors while parked in the driveway or on the street. Never leave purses, wallets or valuables inside your car. LOCK the doors to your homes at night as well. Alexandria is NOT the sleepy little town we know from decades ago, so if you don't own a lock - go buy one!

CAUTION TO HOMEOWNERS WITH FIREARMS: It's easy to say "I hope they dare come into my home...", but let's not mistake a family member returning home late without your knowledge for someone invading your home. If you hear something out of the ordinary, or see something outside similarly, dial 911. If it doesn't look right or sound right, call. Don't call your neighbor, your husband, wife, brother, sister or relative 3rd time removed; CALL THE POLICE

The vigilance displayed by members of our community in the past resulted in putting several people in prison. We need that vigilance again. No one knows your neighborhood better than you. If it doesn't look right, DIAL 911
