Tri-County Hazard Mitigation Plan (draft) is available for review and comment...

Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan Available for Review until July 25

The public is encouraged to review and comment on the Ingham, Clinton, Eaton County and Delta Charter Township Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan before it is finalized. This plan was created to develop a strategy to reduce damage and losses caused by natural hazard events. The final draft of the plan is available as a PDF through the link below from July 11 to July 25, 2014. The purpose is to provide information to the public on the Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan under development as well as gain public input.
Taxpayers pay billions of dollars each year for disaster recovery. Some events are predictable, and often, damages can be reduced or eliminated. The federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires communities to develop an approved local hazard mitigation plan to remain eligible for certain federal funding.

The Ingham County, Clinton County, Eaton County and Delta Charter Township Emergency Management Coordinators invited representatives from across the region to develop this plan. The planning committee addressed ranging from flooding and tornadoes to severe winter storms—and considered the impacts of these events on local communities. Based on the results of a risk assessment of the hazards, committee members suggested ways for their jurisdictions to reduce damages caused by the various hazards. The committee consulted with the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission to assist with the plan development and ensure that the final plan meets federal regulations.

The planning committee would like input from the public on the strategy being developed to lessen impacts of future disasters on people and property in mid-Michigan. The Plan will be sent to the Michigan State Police and FEMA after this public comment period. Your comments will be considered by the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee and incorporated into the plan, as appropriate.

From July 11 to July 25, 2014, the final draft plan is available as a PDF through https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6375163/Tri-County_and_DeltaTwp_HazMitPlan_%20Draft.pdf
